The New Covenant and The Priesthood

But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood . . . Heb 7:24

Jesus, as the high priest of the New Covenant, has an unchangeable priesthood. Thus, whereas the Old Covenant was temporary, the New Covenant is everlasting (Heb 13:21)and unchangeable. This is a key to understanding the theme of “the last days”, which is woven throughout the New Testament. The reference cannot be to the last days of the Christian era, for it is everlasting and unchangeable. Because the early Church was already in the last days (Acts 2:16-17, Heb. 1:2), we must understand those days to be the last days of the era of Judaism, of the Old Covenant, for we know that it was coming to an end.
