The New Covenant and CanaanIs the physical land of Israel promised to the Jews forever? It certainly appears that the land of Canaan was promised to Abraham’s seed forever. But in the previous chapter we saw that Abraham’s children of the promise were not physical Jews, but spiritual Jews . . . . (p. 132) Does this mean that all of the promises regarding Israel and the land are to only be taken in a spiritual sense, and that physical Israel and physical Canaan were never in view? Absolutely not! The land was promised to them, and they did enter it. This is the assurance to the believer that just as God brought physical Israel into physical Canaan, so He will bring spiritual Israel into spiritual Canaan. (pp. 136-137) Is the modern re-gathering of Jews to the land of Israel a fulfillment of Bible prophecy? Does the physical land of Israel play a role in the New Covenant? These are some of the issues explored in this chapter. |
