Summary To Part II

Having laid the foundation of the nature of the New Covenant in Part I, we have built our framework of eschatology upon it in Part II. The framework that most naturally and harmoniously fits that foundation is the eschatological position of Full Preterism. Admittedly, much of this framework is foreign to what we may have previously understood regarding the events and nature of the Second Coming of Christ. Though foreign, we feel that none of it is forced to fit, but rather falls naturally into place when we allow Scripture to interpret Scripture, and follow the precedents set forth therein. This, we feel, cannot be said of the Futurist framework of eschatology. Although we may have completely rearranged the pieces of the reader’s eschatological puzzle, we feel that they now fit naturally into place, revealing the picture that was meant by our Lord and the inspired authors of the Bible concerning the “last days.” Any other arrangement of the pieces is due to man’s forcing them into place to display the picture he desires to see. (p. 352)

Though all the pieces of the eschatological puzzle fit perfectly and naturally within the framework presented in this section, we are sympathetic with the reader in realizing they may be quite foreign to one’s own beliefs. But we must ask ourselves, which do we prefer—a framework that fits naturally in our own beliefs, but is foreign to the teaching of Scripture; or one which is foreign to our beliefs but fits naturally with what Scripture teaches? If we go on feelings, then we will be in the same position as the Jews who didn’t “feel” that Christ was the Messiah. (p. 357)
